Feline Beasts of the Mountain and Forest

Scatter

Large mountain lion sized felines that live in the same terrain as their mundane cousins, Scatter have thousands of quills instead of fur. They are able to throw the quills with deadly accuracy. The quills are shaped much like porcupine quills, with many fine hairs and sharp hooks at the end, but are easily as long as a forearm. Scatter can fire these quills in any direction up to twenty feet away.
The animals have an incredible intelligence, communicating by telepathy when warranted, but use this option only when faced with a superior enemy of good alignment.
They seldom leave their breeding grounds at the base of mountains. Families of multiple generations live and hunt in a single region from one lair. They are very social animals when together, but are silent spies to anything that enters their territory or captures their interest. The telepathy is said to be unidirectional, but many scholars believe they are capable of scanning thoughts, since they invariably are aware of alignments.
Their faces, they have a face not feline features, seems strangely reminiscent of the elven race, leading many to believe they are an variation of elven cats that moved to rockier terrain. That is unlikely since the Greymar mountians of the grey elves, where elven cats were originally bred, have never seen habitation by the curious felines.

Illusion Beasts

The Illusion Beasts are known by many names and inhabit regions all over the realm. They are found under the surface, in the mountains, in forests, plains, nearly any kind of wilderness. They are among the most adaptable felines alive. In the Deepndark and forest terrains, the illusion beast is a black-blue in color. In the mountains and plains, they tend toward a more red and brownish coloring. They are always a solid color from head to tail and average about 5 to 6 feet in length. They appear much as a mountain lion save for the two long whip-like tentacles protruding from their sides. The tentacles end in spike studded  suction cups that wave continuously.
Their name reflects their nature. They thrive on illusion. They are unable to create illusions or lay traps to trick their prey and enemies, instead they are constantly protected by a powerful illusion, without any need to concentrate or even have a conscious awareness of the affect. It is naturally generated from their hide and makes them appear up to three or four feet from their actual position in a random direction. The viscious creature preys on any other living creature, including other members of their own race. It prefers meat, whether fresh or otherwise is simply a matter of availibility.
