Mages

The mage is a student of all arcane knowledge. Unfortunately, they can wear no armor, and use few weapons (staff, dagger, dart, sling). They are physically weak, and begin their careers with little power. However, an experienced mage commands awesome spells. They are required to choose between one of several established towers of magic, before reaching intermediate level.

Specialists

A specialist mage is one who has chosen a particular school of magic at the expense of others. The Schools of Magic are illusion, necromancy, conjuration, evocation, alteration, enchantment, divination, and abjuration. The specialists gain bonuses with their own type of spells, but cannot cast or have difficulty casting certain other types.

Illusionists

One example of a Specialist Wizard, the illusionist's strength is in the School of Illusions, where the primary focus of their study lies. They gain additional spells as they progress, but these bonus spells are always in the School of their focus. They are greatly weakened in using spells from the opposite School of Conjuration. While able to see through the illusions of other wizards, illusionists and magical effects with greater skill, they lose the knowledge they would otherwise have of variations among the other Schools of Magic.

Sorcerers

Sorcerers are students of magic that seek power immediately. Usually consumed by an overwhelming drive to achieve some goal, sorcerers take any shortcuts they can find and generally abuse their power. They learn spells twice as slow as a mage, but gain bonus spell at will each level.

Rune-Casters

Though the rune-caster is a powerful warrior, they are considered the mage-class of the north for their knowledge of the Runes of Power. Rune-casters are able to tap into the mystic energies to add to their own strength and generate special powers. The runes can be learned by several classes of Norse adventurers, but none can compete with the mastery of the rune-caster. He is able to not only learn the runes but to bend them to create new runes or modify their results. Only Norse characters are capable of taking this profession.
