The workers
swarm the shore awaiting the ship. As it draws near, something is
wrong. They do not shout the standard hail as they near the shore. The
men aboard do not wave or move from their positions. When arrows fire
from the ship, tearing into the unarmored flesh of the workers, it
becomes clear. The forest folk have taken the ship and now seek to
attack the hold.
They cut through the workers instantly. Only a couple of
the onlookers are able to escape the blitz attack. One races to the
half completed failsafe, while the rest run to warn the hold. The
failsafe is sadly less effective than they had hoped. It simply
seperated the forest folk into two groups and killed a few of the
attackers. The first wave hit the stronghold only moments after the
fleeing workers. The second wave, slowed only slightly by the
rockslide, catches up as the force from the hold meets the first wave.
Raevil is alerted by the sounds of battle ringing off the
mountain walls and gathers the workers he has at the clearing to
reinforce the hold-defenders. They rush to the site of battle to find
the norse warriors in a controlled fallback to the hold walls. Raevil
is able to circle the battle and take his men into the hold
unchallenged before the defenders are able to fall back to safety.

The master of
the hold organized his men and the workers of the hold into ranks of
archers and slingers. Then as the gates open to allow the defenders in,
they attack. The surprise of a sudden ranged attack covering the
controlled retreat throws off both groups. The forest folk turn to get
out of range, quickly followed by the norse who now advance upon them
pressing their sudden advantage. The forest folk are unable to reform
their lines as they clash with the norse again. Raevil orders his force
to drop their bows and slings and join the main group in the attack,
leading the charge himself. With no where to run, the forest folk fight
to the death.
Though the rockslide of the failsafe was largely
ineffective, it does yeild quite a few wounded forest folk. Once they
are allowed to recover, they are put to work on the wall of the new
city. One among them stands out in the sight of Raevil. The young
forester, though he speaks only his language is able to settle a
dispute between the guards and his men when a couple foresters attack a
guard who is attempting to steal an interesting necklace off one of the
prisoners. Raevil, hearing of the incident, comes to the prison camp
and with gestures explains to the young forester that he is in charge
of the prisoners.
